5 Fun Things to Do on Your Next Lake Trip

Lake season is officially here and you don’t want to miss a minute! Fill your days with fun and make lasting memories with these summer activities.

“I can feel my whole body relax the minute I arrive. The calmness of the lake. The call of a loon. The smell of the forest after a rain or the smell of fresh dew in the mornings.”
–NIKKI (@NIKKISUPS)

Summer is here, and so is the heat, which means it’s time to retreat to the lake. This is where we spend the best of our summer days swimming, boating, and playing beach games. During warm nights, memories are made around the campfire, roasting s’mores and sharing stories over Caesars. You have no schedule to follow except to pack the days with as much fun as possible. If you're wondering how to fill those scorching days, we have you covered with some tried and true lake activities to keep you going all summer.

1. Water Sports

Some of the best things about being on the lake are the countless water activities to try. Most of them you can do from sunrise to sunset, which means your day never has to end. There’s paddleboarding, kayaking, waterskiing, wake surfing, and Sea-Dooing, to name a few. Some of these are high intensity, so it pays to have the appropriate gear. Try out a paddlesuit to avoid any slips and block UV rays while you’re on the water.

2. Suntanning

The lake is the best place to sit back and relax. Sitting in the sun and enjoying the rays is summer’s form of meditation. Pop on your swimsuit for an even glow, grab an ice-cold beverage, and feel yourself melt into your beach chair. Stay sun-smart, and remember to pack some sunscreen so you can enjoy the rest of your vacation.

3. Fishing

Whether you catch anything or not, trolling the lake at sunrise is the perfect way to start your day. Fishing is a great way to spend some alone time or catch up with friends as you cruise around. Turn the morning into an adventure by packing a lunch and your favourite hat and seeing if you can find your own secret fishing spot.

4. Swimming

Lake life can have a lot of downtime, so it's a good idea to add a little movement into your routine. Start or end each day with a few laps in the lake to refresh your mind and stretch your muscles. Get yourself excited to swim by bringing your favourite swimsuit. This way, you’ll always have an excuse to get in the water!

5. Watching Fireworks

Fireworks displays are the highlight of a lake trip for both kids and adults. They’re a special way for communities to gather for holidays and celebrate the start of summer. To stay cozy, wear your favourite cover up and bring a few extra towels for everyone to sit on. It will be the best night of the summer!
